Vintage Gem of Harlem

On an afternoon run through the historic streets of Harlem, I lucked up on this vintage girl’s paradise, AKA, the Neighborhood Women’s Collective Thrift & Vintage Boutique. Discretely nuzzled between a barber shop and a pharmacy, the red awning and sharply dressed mannequins caught me eye; demanding I take a peek inside. I am SO glad that I did, because from that moment on, my vintage game has forever changed...

Walking into this store was like walking into the closets of my mother and her sisters, giving me an immediate childhood flashbacks. If you are not familiar with the backstory of Halls Of Style, it's inception was inspired by the love of various vintage style that I learned from spending time in the closets of my favorite lades., Finding this gem, so far away from home, was a dream come true for me! Ran by a collective board of retired educators, world travelers and all around amazing women, this shop harbors some of the most dynamic pieces I’ve ever seen. More importantly, the funds earned here are used to provide rehabilitation services and workshops to local women that face social and economic challenges. Read more about their programs and how they serve the Harlem community here. What initially began as a store that I sporadically visited has now become a happy place where I am almost a daily regular and enjoy hanging out to close for their "Wine Down Fridays" where we sip & chat...and try on clothes! I am there so much that for the past 2 months, I have served as their weekly feature for #FashionFridays as I style and showcase some of my favorite finds from this little piece of heaven. If you see something you like, message me and I'll see that you get it. Definitely worth a visit uptown to 2494 Frederick Douglas Ave. to shop and donate and follow their daily jewels on Instagram @NWCollectiveNYC.

Here are some pieces found at the NWC that I feel in love with at first sight...

80's red mohair sweater adorned with sequins and pearls

90's duster for dramatic layering

80's electric blue "secretary" blouse & camel leather pants for the WIN!

70's men's sweater and velvet vest

And finally, let's take a moment for their coat selection...

No matter what jewels you are searching for, you can discover them all at the Vintage Gem of Harlem! Sigh up for their newsletter so stay informed on all of their workshop and featured items here.

You can thank me later!

Peace Out,

M. Renee
