Halls Of Style Meets Trumaker

A few months ago, I partnered with a San Francisco based menswear company, Trumaker, to expand on my clientele offerings and delve into the custom, or “Built-To-Fit”, market for shirts and blazers. Building this business from nothing has been grueling, but definitely worth it. I take great pride in saying, that I have been recognized as one of New York’s the top performers and featured on the Trumaker website in their “Meet Your Maker” post. Check your girl out…

New York has a special spot in our hearts. It’s where Trumaker was born and we’re incredibly happy to still be there. Renee Williams is one of the Outfitters making sure we never leave.

With her dedication to customers, knowledge of product, and amazing personality she is the perfect example of what we as a company strive to provide. Summed up in one word: excellence. Renee was nice enough to sit with us in Central Park and tell us about herself and life as a Trumaker Outfitter.

How long have you lived in New York?

I grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, but that seems like a life time ago. For nearly 8 years, Harlem has been my home.

Can you describe a typical day for you?

I think every Outfitter would agree that there is no “typical day”; this is what I enjoy most about working with Trumaker! Two constants of my mornings: black coffee and a 2-hour planning session. Being that public transportation is my sole way of getting around the city, I like to map out my meetings at the top of the day and review client notes from prior conversation/meeting. This is essential for me to stay focused and organized. After these 2 hours, I’m off into the concrete jungle!

Favorite thing to do in the city?

Anyone who knows me remotely well knows I’m always on my bike. I ride her (I named my bike Charlie) just about everywhere and in just about every weather condition. I have had Charlie for the past 5 years and have ventured to every borough. I have ridden up to the Bronx for a farmer’s market, Brooklyn just to go over the bridge and even on Trumaker appointment. My outfitter bag fits perfectly on the back rack and even acts as free advertising at red lights!

Favorite places in New York?

I’m so in love with the city, it’s hard to narrow one place down to my “favorite”. But if I have to pick, I’d choose Harlem. No matter what part you visit, you are awestricken by the people, the food, the architecture, and the culture. Lately, it has been in a constant state of growth and commercially evolving while remaining true to its history, all at the same time. Hands down, there is no other place like it in New York.

When and how did you get involved with Trumaker?

I got involved with Trumaker in March of this year after seeing an outfitter posting online. I have worked as an image consultant for years, but focused in women’s styling. Trumaker has taught me so much about menswear, allowed me the opportunity to grow my network and showed me the importance of built-to-fit styling and providing the best customer experience.

What’s your favorite part about working for the company?

The greatest asset Trumaker provides is continuous support. Whether it’s from my sales managers, customer/outfitter support at the headquarters or fellow outfitters, I have never felt unprepared to meet with a client or that an issue would go unresolved. The constant encouragement that I have received from my New York team and even outfitters from other cities has amazed me. I am so thankful for each of them!

Favorite Trumaker product?

It was the Faulkner shirt by no comparison. However, being that we just launched the Stackhouse shirt, I am completely torn between the two. Regardless, I want either one (or both) as a dress ASAP!

What inspires you?

I tend to find inspiration in several things. Mainly my family, they are my source of strength. Since I am so far away from home, I also have a great circle of friends, mostly entrepreneurs themselves, which constantly encourages and motivates me. I like to surround myself with people who embrace a hustlers’ spirit.

Any fashion tips for your customers?

Only buy things that you absolutely love and fit great. This way you’ll build a wardrobe of pieces that best represent you and your authentic personal style.

Favorite hobbies?

I love anything active and outdoors, vintage shopping, long conversations with older ladies, and being the coolest aunt to the most amazing kids.

Fun Fact about yourself?

Sometimes, I snort loudly when I laugh, but only if I find something super funny. Don’t judge me!

Special thanks to @AustinLord for bearing the NYC heat wave (all the way from Nashville, TN) just to capture these images! It was a pleasure to work with you.
